The development of neurosurgery in the first half of the XX century is closely connected with the activities of the largest American neurosurgeon Harvey Cushing (1869-1939). His achievement is the development of rational methods of surgery on the brain, in particular the proposal of special methods of hemostasis - klipirovaiiya, electrocoagulation, continuous suction of fluid from the wound, etc. Of particular importance was the study of Cushing's in surgery of pituitary tumors, acoustic nerve neuromas, meningiomas, and compiled in collaboration with the Bailey classification of gliomas. Another neurosurgeon, the largest of the first half of the XX century was the Dandy (1S86-1946). whose name is associated with a number of new methods of surgery on the brain. Especially valuable have been proposed in the 1918 Beaux ventriculography and in 1919 pneumoencephalography. A very large influence on the development of neurosurgery had angiography of the brain developed by Moniz in the late 20s of this century. By proper methods of investigation include neurosurgical tools that enable direct examination the cranial cavity and spinal canal and located in their structures (lumbar puncture, and suboktsipitalnaya, myelography, puncture of the brain and lateral ventricles, and encephalo-ventriculography, angiography). These methods is preceded by somatic and neurological research, as well as performed with the help of special equipment.
